Legislative Drafting

Our Legislative Drafting Practice is made up of lawyers who have worked on the development and drafting of a large number of Maldivian laws and regulations. We are one of only a few law firms that can provide such a pool of expertise.

Our team is bilingual (English and Dhivehi) and understands the needs of the public sector, particularly the need for clear and concise legislation. We understand just how legislations must fit and integrate into the pre-existing legal and constitutional structure.

We offer the following services in respect to the drafting of new laws or subsidiary legislation:

  • Conducting a gap analysis to determine what is missing or may be improved in current and proposed legislation.
  • Performing a benchmarking exercise to discern the methodology utilized in other countries.
  • identifying any pertinent international obligations that must be met
  • Consulting with all stakeholders to ensure that the full spectrum of concerns is understood and dealt with.
  • Advice on local legislation and policy issues.
  • Drafting of new laws, regulations, rules, policies, and resolutions.
  • Amendments to existing laws, regulations, rules, policies and resolutions.
