Mohamed Anil is the Managing Partner at Alif Law Chambers LLP. He is also a member of the Bar Council of the Maldives, and an Advocate in the Superior Courts, the High Court and the Supreme Court of the Maldives. He served as the Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives from November 2013 to November 2018.
Prior to being appointed as the Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives in November 2013, he was a Partner at Nasheed Anil & Co (from November 2011 to November 2013) and also a Partner at Axis Chambers (from December 2008 to November 2011).
Anil was the former Commissioner of Legal Reform, in the Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts from 2007 – 2008. Anil also worked as a Director at the Attorney General’s Office from 2006-2007 and as an Assistant State Attorney in the Attorney General’s Office 2004-2006. He started his legal profession as a Legal Officer (trainee) at the Attorney General’s Office in 1997. He was also a member of the Constitutional Assembly convened to devise the recently adopted 2008 constitution of the Maldives. Anil had taught law at Faculty of Shariah and Law of the Maldives College of Higher Education.
Mohamed Anil graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with Honours from the Oxford Brookes University, UK in 2004. Anil, as a Chevening Scholar, completed his Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights Law from University of Essex, UK in 2011.
His present client base and work scope include local and foreign private individuals and corporate clients with an emphasis in the tourism industry, commercial law, trade and investment law.
In addition to his civil and commercial law practice, Anil also specializes in Constitutional Law and Human Rights Law. He is also one of the leading legislative draftspersons in the country. Anil is a co-founder of the NGO “Democracy House” in the Maldives.
